Map O’ The Day #208 - Consol Energy Center Parking

consol
Today’s MOTD is a true map but it provides informational elements as well that can save you some money if you are heading to the new Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. This map was created by Bob Firth. He has many other hand maps of Pittsburgh at his website, www.bobsmaps.com. If you live in the area give a click over to his page and buy his Pittsburgh Cheat Sheets book, only 6.95, coming out on August 31st and learn some tricks and secrets to a handful of things.

As a side note this map would have been perfect for last Thursday when I had tickets to attend Paul McCartney’s opening night concert. Alas I couldn’t find the time to get to Pittsburgh from DC. I gave my friend the ticket and he said the arena was awesome, specifically commenting on the massive output from the HVAC units.

Map O’ The Day #204 - FIFA World Cup 2010 Bracket

fife2010worldcup
I know I am a little late to the World Cup soccer infographic party but i really liked how this bracket simplified information without using words. It is a shame that the author choose to use words at all because we can figure out which round is which without the header at the top and the thickness of the winning line representing the number of goals could be inferred…i believe.

Today’s MOTD is in celebration of the LA Lakers championship win, much to the chagrin of my Boston native co-worker.

This infographic was found on the Behance network designed by Tom Sommers. The image is a little hard to read but you can go to his site and see each section expanded.

The Giro d’Italia – the three-week Tour of Italy pro cycling race – begins this week. Here is a great graphic from www.cyclocosm.com, showing all of the race winners going back to the very first Giro in 1912 in the shape of Italy. The order is represented chronologically from the earliest in the south in Sicily, to the most recent in the north up on the Austrian border. The more wins the rider has, the bigger their names appear (the great Belgian, Eddy Merckx, rules the roost with five wins). The color coding is also very simple and smart; the typographic info is in the Italian tricolor set on a background of pink – the color of the race leader’s jersey, which harks back the pink newsprint pages of La Gazzetta Della Sport, the newspaper that created the Giro back in 1912.

It is a newspaper infographic from www.pakistanintelligencer.com depicting visually the rules and how to play the sport of cricket.

Map O’ The Day #155 - Walsh Coaching Tree

capture1

Today’s MOTD is the coaching tree of the creator of the west coast offense and one of the greatest coaches of all time Bill Walsh.

In analyzing the tree, Mike Holmgren’s lineage is probably the strongest but Dennis Green’s tree is making a case bolstered by the most current super bowl winning coach, Mike Tomlin.
