Today’s MOTD was created by Joumana Medlej from Beirut, Lebanon. The graphic shows the different facial expressions one can make and why they are made. Joumana probably made this graphic from the extensive cartoon illustration experience she displays on her website, www.cedarseed.com.

Map O’ The Day #169 - Rowing
Todays MOTD is another in our series of get to know a sport and comes to us from award winning infographic designer Scott Nychay. He designed this graphic for the Northwest Herald, an Illinois newspaper and it represents an excellent standard in newsprint infographic design.
Map O’ The Day #167 - Why Infographics?
Today’s MOTD represents what our blog and company is all about, explaining how the infographic experiance and visual communication accelerates decision making due higher information retention rates. This graphic was created by Darning Pixels, Inc.
Map O’ The Day #162 - Vehicles In Parking Lots
Today’s MOTD comes to us from Brandon Oxendine, a graphic design freelancer and student at Winthrop university. This graphic uses my one of my favorite design elements, blackboarding, to clearly and colorfully show multivariant data relating to everything from the condition, to the color and age of a cross section of vehicles in parking lots.
Truly a well designed infographic. My only comment would be that I would like the 5 images to be bigger and with the percent number inside the each graphic section. This would eliminate the need for the text on the right, while still providing the same amount of information. Oh and the title could be changed to ‘Vehicles’, as it pertains not only to cars…just being picky ;-), great job!
Map O’ The Day #131 - How To Mind Map
Today’s MOTD is truly a gem in terms of content for our board. Paul Foreman, who’s blog and terrific resource located at http://www.mindmapinspiration.com/, created this mind map, mapping how to create a mind map.
You can use his wireframe to mind map anything. You can see other examples of mind maps on our site, but i urge you to check out his site, truly exceptional!
Map O’ The Day #107 - Germany’s 60th
Today’s MOTD was created by Golden Section Graphics for Germany’s 60th birthday celebration since the foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949.
The original graphic was done in German for a magazine, however in the English version the three graphs have been cut out and arranged.
Es ist ein schones infographik, ja?
Map O’ The Day #105 - Resume Infographic
Today’s MOTD exemplifies what our blog is all about, recognizing the designer of great infographics.
The map in itself is a resume, created by Michael Anderson. It chronicles his education, experience, skill sets and metrics about his daily routine.
The whole graphic works in a system to shape the story of who Michael Anderson is, where he has been and where he would like to go.
This graphic has been reposted to a host of social networking sites and shows the power that information graphics have virally. On Monday, only a few people knew Michael’s skill sets, work history, etc…while, on Wednesday, thousands of people and potential employers know about Michael Anderson!
Map O’ The Day #68 - Sneaker Sketch
Today’s MOTD is a napkin sketch by Michael Ditullo, the design director at Converse Basketball. His sketch of the intended process for conception to completion of a shoe, versus the actual process, is explained through images, callouts and flow arrows. The image, while amusing, is full of information about Converse shoes and the author.
For example, we can determine that Converse shoes are manufactured in China and that Mr. Ditullo is not a teetotaler.
Map O’ The Day #52 - Obama Campaign Poster
Today’s MOTD is a Obama campaign poster, designed by Aaron Allen, the creative director @ Wieden+Kennedy. It is titled Unite The States of America, and is an interesting use of a Venn Diagram as a vehicle for messaging. Obviously, we all know what a Venn Diagram is used for, but one would not have thought to use the actual design to further the message’s impact — very clever.
I found this to be a particularly interesting “vision graphic”, a tool that Maga employs in everyone of it’s maps.
