Today's MOTD is a true map but it provides informational elements as well that can save you some money if you are heading to the new Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. This map was created by Bob Firth. He has many other hand maps of Pittsburgh at his website, www.bobsmaps.com. If you live in the area give a click over to his page and buy his Pittsburgh Cheat Sheets book, only 6.95, coming out on August 31st and learn some tricks and secrets to a handful of things.

As a side note this map would have been perfect for last Thursday when I had tickets to attend Paul McCartney's opening night concert. Alas I couldn't find the time to get to Pittsburgh from DC. Continuing with our fast food trend, today's MOTD is a colorful description of the calorie intake of popular foods vs the time it takes to burn the extra energy using four different types of exercise. While there is much debate about this infographic being 'bad' due to the with arc length vs. value, the design is nice and you can still retrieve some relevant data from it. If you want to read about why this infographic doesn't work, please go here to Peltier Tech Blog. Jon does a very good job describing the problem and then goes on to correct the problem by creating new charts. The original infographic was created by 5W infographics designer, Petra Axlund.

Today's MOTD is from Rama Hoetzlein and is an easy to read timeline of 20th century art theory. A short paragraph and bio from his website are below:

I seek to develop the theoretical foundations of new media art, to extend its conceptual and technical limits, and to develop a curricula and context for its education. My research and artwork extends beyond the natural sciences in media arts (physics, bio, nano, organic, etc.), to explore human-level topics such as emotion, psychology, intelligence, and society. My goal is to develop new paradigms for imagination and creativity in media arts.

SHORT BIO
Rama Hoetzlein (b. 1975), is a media artist and computer scientist working in the areas of surrealism, artificial intelligence and computer graphics. He completed a BFA in Fine Arts and a BA in Computer Science at Cornell University in 2001, with thesis works on robotic and mechanical sculpture. From 2001 to 2004, Rama co-founded the Game Design Initiative at Cornell University with David Schwartz (CS), while also developing user interfaces in biotech. In 2007, Rama completed his master's thesis on knowledge organization and visualization with the Media Arts & Technology Program at the University of California Santa Barbara.
