Map O’ The Day #166 - The Art Of Free Diving
Today’s MOTD comes to us from Laura Dingeldein, a student of Alberto Cairo. The graphic is great because it tells you everything you need to know about free diving, from the equipment used to the effects that different depths have on your body and various styles of free diving.
Map O’ The Day #165 - WWI Characature Map
Today’s MOTD comes to us from an amazing artist, Keith Thompson. While the map is not informationally heavy, like some of our other maps, it is stunningly beautiful and still provides good metaphors for the World powers fighting for control of Europe in 1914.

Map O’ The Day #164 - Inevitable Capitalist Agenda

This awesome graphic assists one in understanding the two sides of the political spectrum, through an USA-centric viewpoint. I enjoy the flow between family and adults (parental type), as it adheres to a lot of work done by liberal writer George Lakoff. While some basic stereotypical language and views are presented here, the political philosophy, to this double-major in the respective areas, seems to be pretty spot-on, with very few exaggerations or misstatements.
Overall I thought this was very clean design, using some nice curved shapes to break up the boxiness / banner format that was chosen. And more kudos to the sihouetted simple four-color scheme.
This superb infographic hails from the new infographic book of visual exploria: The Visual Miscellaneum. Creative credit here goes to David McCandless & Stefanie Posavec.
Map O’ The Day #163 - Gapminder World Map
Today’s MOTD comes to us from Infonauts Map Blog, written by Sevaan Franks.
The graphic was created by www.gapminder.org, a ‘non-profit venture promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by increased use and understanding of statistics and other information about social, economic and environmental development at local, national and global levels. We are a modern “museum” that helps making the world understandable, using Internet.’
Map O’ The Day #162 - Vehicles In Parking Lots
Today’s MOTD comes to us from Brandon Oxendine, a graphic design freelancer and student at Winthrop university. This graphic uses my one of my favorite design elements, blackboarding, to clearly and colorfully show multivariant data relating to everything from the condition, to the color and age of a cross section of vehicles in parking lots.
Truly a well designed infographic. My only comment would be that I would like the 5 images to be bigger and with the percent number inside the each graphic section. This would eliminate the need for the text on the right, while still providing the same amount of information. Oh and the title could be changed to ‘Vehicles’, as it pertains not only to cars…just being picky ;-), great job!
Map O’ The Day #161 - Submarine Cable Map
Today’s MOTD comes from www.telegeography.com and is a map of submerged internet cables both in use and planned internationally and domestically. I added some images and blowouts at the bottom for more reference about the internet cable itself.
Map O’ The Day #160 - WHO H1N1 Maps
I created todays map of the day from the 5 most recent maps provided at the World Health Organization’s web site. The descriptions of the scale of measurments are shown in the bottom right corner of each map, denoted by an *.

Map O’ The Day #159 - Papal Election
Today’s MOTD is a true infographic and almost a supergraphic in terms of content. The focus is what happens when a pope dies; specifically, how the Papal election process works and where the decisions and ceremonies are made and take place.
