Enhancing our sustainability and social responsibility has become an important initiative at Maga. As we work to expand our philanthropic reach and environmental consciousness, we’re mindful of the important role that innovation can play. That said, I was excited to learn that my high school alma mater has recently launched a similar program that seeks to foster organic engagement through a combination of service and creativity.
Flintridge Prep, located outside of Los Angeles, has long been aware of the value that comes from exposing students to such crossroads — taking the necessary risks to ‘encourage fresh ideas.’ In fact, this approach facilitated my initial introduction to the concept of CSR and undoubtedly sparked my interest in pursuing it as a career.
Their new initiative — like ours — intends to function as a more focused framework, providing the tools to overcome bureaucratic obstacles in pursuit of thoughtful, efficient citizenship projects. The result? An inspiring culture that encourages taking risks, thinking big and translating experiences in order to scale great ideas. If nothing else, Flintridge Prep’s Idea Lab is an important reminder of what can be achieved when creativity and innovation are placed at the forefront of community initiatives.
