The shortest serving female senator served for just one day, while Hilary Clinton was actually one of the longest-serving. Having served for 26 years and counting, Senator Barbra Mikulski of Maryland is currently the longest serving female senator.
Though the Senate is still a long way from gender equality, the 2012 elections did a great deal to shift the balance in that direction.
