Tesfaye Gabreab was an author who rose to fame with his book Yebruka Zimta (Silence Of The Burkha River) after three decades of work. It is a critical historical novel that inflamed the rebuke among Amharic readers.

The book surrounds the reflection and reaction of the Oromo people on the century-old marginalization, discrimination, and suppression. The publishing of the book categorized Ethiopian readers into three different categories.

The well-known controversial author Tesfaye Gebreab died on December 24 in Nairobi. Although his cause of death is still unknown, we know that he was under medical treatment for months before he took his last breath.  

Gebreab had major surgery before his demise. Reportedly, he was recovering well and was preparing to go back to his home. Sadly, the author couldn’t make it.

He had embarked his name with remarkable books and publications on both personal and institutional levels during his lifetime. Back in his serving period at Efoyita, he organized the publication of five volumes of literary anthology books called Efita.
