The 20-year-old star player joined San Diego as a four-star rated recruit by ESPN in the 2020/21 season turning down offers from the likes of Stanford, Washington, Colorado, California, Boise State, and Saint Mary’s.
Lamont appeared in 28 games as a freshman and later started in 25 out of 27 games as a sophomore in the 2021/22 season, averaging 7.3 points and 2.1 rebounds with 57 assists and 46 steals.
Butler made it to the Mountain West All-Defensive Team and Paycom Wooden Legacy All-Tournament Team because of stellar performances last season.
The young rising star from SDSU grew up in Moreno Valley, California. He was born in a garage, referring to which he is nicknamed G-Baby.
Butler is blessed to be raised in a household that supported him in following his passion from the very early days. His old folks travel to as many games as possible to support him and cheer for the team.
They were also present at the NRG Arena last night to relish one of the greatest moments of Lamont’s career. After watching his son score the match-winning point at the buzzer, Butler’s dad was proud and ecstatic.
“All the work Lamont put in, and this is what you live for. To be able to hit a match-winning shot to take your team to a championship, we couldn’t have scripted it any better”, said Butler Sr.
Carmicha and Butler Sr have known each other since their high school days. They were initially attracted to each other as they started to date.
The pair immediately clicked and fell in love after learning more about each other. It didn’t take them long to bind their relationship into marriage as they walked down the aisle and exchanged vows.
The dazzling couple shares the same love, care, and compassion for each other more than three decades after their nuptials, as apparent from their social media posts.
Lamont’s father has shared many photos on Instagram wishing his better half on special occasions such as birthdays, festivals, and Valentine’s Day.
And the most important thing is that both of them have played a massive role in ensuring G-baby has a beautiful career in basketball.
Lamont Butler sister Asasha Lache Hall was a victim of reckless gun violence. Lamont has total of three siblings; two sisters and brother Landon.
Asasha and Aaliyah are older than him, whereas Landon is the youngest of the family.
The San Diego State guard shares a strong bond with his kinfolk, as he spent the entirety of his childhood playing and growing up with them.
Sadly, Asasha is no more in this world, as she lost her life on January 2022 following an unfortunate incident. Lamont is grieving over the loss of his elder sister for more than a year now. Quite understandably, he became very emotional in her memory after the match last night.
After the thrilling victory over the Owls, Butler spoke with ESPN about how much he misses his late sister Sasha daily, recalling her as one of his biggest supporters. Furthermore, she often attended the arenas to cheer for her younger brother.
He added,” I know she’s up there happy right now, watching me play the game I love. And I think she was with me with that shot. She probably guided the ball in a little bit. I miss her and am happy I can do this for her.”
The incident made him much stronger and provided further motivation to succeed in basketball. Lamont’s sensational last-second shot to guide SDSU to the NCAA final is a fitting tribute to his late sister.
Butler started playing basketball as soon as he could walk. He often followed his sisters when they used to go for basketball matches and watch them play from the sidelines.
At the age of just seven, the SDSU guard was serious about playing hoops. He used to travel from Riverside to LA alongside his pop in order to play in a 9U league.
With the adroit hard work and talent he possessed, it was only a matter of time before he prospered his interest into a career. G-Baby graduated from Riverside Poly High School with notable accolades during his time there.
He became the all-time leading scorer for Poly with more than 1800 career points as he passed the NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller. Moreover, he recorded 559 assists and 271 steals en route to compiling 91 wins in his high school career.
Butler made a name for himself in high school basketball becoming the MVP of the Ivy League as a senior. Furthermore, he was also named the most valuable player of the Riverside Kiwanis Tournament as a junior, sophomore and senior.
He needed to get many offers to post his high school career, as he was a four-star rated recruit by ESPN and a three-star talent by Rivals.
With him being eligible for NBA Draft in 2025, the young lad will look to keep performing for the team and further hone his skills to make his case when the time comes.
